House on Stilts - Loch Ness

This larch clad dwelling with internal Douglas Fir post + beam structure is set within a beautiful rural Highland setting, near Inverness. The building features vaulted ceilings, a spiral staircase, balconies and bright, airy spaces.

Set on pad foundations for minimal impact on the ground. The construction and detailing was led by a desire for simple, buildable and environmentally sensitive choices. Although contractors were involved, this was partially a self-build project.

Originally commissioned by a single individual, the client has since grown into the house and made it a family home. This repeat client came back a few years later seeking designs for a large extension, more than doubling the size of the original house, to meet the family's changing needs.

The house on stilts is a modern croft/farm house offering spacious accommodation with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside and a very individual architectural character.
